Serum Markers of Bone Turnover in the Diagnosis of Renal Osteodystrophy
نویسنده
چکیده
Renal osteodystrophy (ROD) is a multifactor disorder of bone remodelling observed in patients with chronic renal failure (CRF) from very early stages (CRF stage 2) and associated with significant morbidity. The remodelling cycle in normal bone lasts from four to eight months and includes several phases: 1) An activation phase in which osteoclasts are mobilized and activated; 2) A resorption phase in which osteoclasts erode the bone surface; 3) A reversal phase that ends resorption and osteoblasts are recruited to the eroded surfaces; 4) Unmineralized matrix (osteoid) synthesised by osteoblasts; and 5) Mineralization of the osteoid tissue. Each of these steps (or several of them) are frequently compromised in uraemic patients. Serum markers of bone turnover in the diagnosis of renal osteodystrophy

New Biochemical Serum Markers of Bone Turnover in Renal Osteodystrophy
Renal osteodystrophy is a multifactorial disorder of bone remodelling that develops in patients with chronic renal failure. During the last few years numerous biochemical markers of bone turnover have been proposed for the non-invasive diagnosis of renal osteodystrophy. Several enzymes and matrix proteins produced by osteoblasts and osteoclasts, including collagen type I degradation products, h...

Background: Renal osteodystrophy (ROD) is a common bone and mineral metabolism disorder in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD). This study aimed to determinate the frequency of the subtypes of ROD and evaluate the diagnostic value of biochemical as the well as radiographic markers for the diagnosis of ROD among hemodialysis patients in Golestan province of Iran. Materials and Methods...
متن کاملPercutaneous bone biopsy in the diagnosis of renal osteodystrophy.
Renal failure is associated with many complex bone and mineral complications. The spectrum of diseases is wide, encompassing defects in bone turnover, remodeling, and mineralization. Disease is currently defined in terms of whether a high or low turnover lesion is present. Measurement of serum parathyroid hormone levels (PTH) remains an important aspect in the management of renal bone disease, ...
متن کاملValue of the new bone classification system in pediatric renal osteodystrophy.
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Although lesions of renal osteodystrophy have traditionally been defined by bone turnover, alterations in skeletal mineralization and volume are also prevalent and may contribute to significant morbidity in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). The study presented here was undertaken to compare the traditional spectrum of renal osteodystrophy defined by bone turn...
متن کاملSingle photon bone densitometry in hemodialysis patients.
Renal osteodystrophy is a common finding in patients with renal insufficiency. The maximum of its intensity is found in hemodialysis patients. Bone densitometry is so far the best method for non-invasive assessment of the extent of the illness. Some densitometric studies in hemodialysis patients have already been published but their results differ in prevalence and intensity of renal osteodystr...
